Salviati & C. was founded by Antonio Salviati in 1859 under the name of "Salviati Dott. Antonio Bartolomeo". He was a lawyer who had a great appreciation for Venetian glassmaking traditions and it was his intention to revitalize the industry. Supported by Lorenzo Radi and under artistic direction of Enrico Pondio, the company developed a new method of making mosaic with glass which within a short period of time reached worldwide success. In 1877 differences in interest between Antonio Salviati and his English investors led him to resign from the company taking several master glass blowers with him. He set up two new business "Salviati Dott. Antonio" which specializes in glassware and "Salviati & C." for the production of mosaic glass. Following his death in 1890, his daughter Amelia and sons Guilio and Silvio continue their fathers business in several different venues merging production with Maurizio Camerino in 1896 under the name of "Guilio Salviati & C.". After the sudden death of Guilio the three Salviati business are combined and trade as "Erede Dott. A. Salviati & C. When Silvio Salviati withdrew from the firm 1920, Maurizio Camerino becomes sole owner and his children Renzo, Mario and Olga continue the business after their fathers death in 1931. Renzo Camerino also worked as a designer for the company amongst other famous artists such as Luciano Gaspari, Dino Martens, Romano Chirivi and Sergio Asti. Alfredo Barbini in exchange for financial assistance to fund his workshop, produces decorative objects for them in the 1950s which are sold under the "Salviati & Co" company name.
